WeChat is a macOS desktop application designed to help you connect with the Tencent communication service. To be able to use the desktop client you will have to connect it to your mobile device, by using the built-in QR Code scanner.
Establish a link between the WeChat desktop client and mobile application with minimal effort
Even though you can sign up for a WeChat account free of charge, note that you are able to perform the action only on a mobile device running on iOS or Android that has the companion app already installed.
WeChat will require an active phone number to be able to send the activation code, and can scan your contacts to find the ones that also use the service.
The next step is to use the built-in QR Code scanner and the phone’s camera to scan the code generated by the WeChat desktop app and confirm the connection.
Worth mentioning is that the WeChat mobile version also provides support for video or audio calls, but the desktop utility can deal only with text messaging. At the same time, the client will not download previous conversations, but you can choose to save the chat history in the Preferences.
